Life of the legend:
The passing of the Acting President of the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja. The Board of Trustees, Governing Council, Faculty, Management, Staff and Students of AUST, Abuja announce with deepest regret, the shocking and sudden death of Professor Charles Ejike Chidume, the Acting President of the University.
He died on Thursday, October 7, 2021, after a brief illness. He was 74 years old. The news of his passing came as a rude shock. There are no words rich enough and no emotions deep enough to adequately put across the loss that we feel individually and collectively.
Prof. Chidume was one of the founding members of AUST. He was the Head of the Mathematics Institute and Vice President Academic, roles which he played with intense passion and commitment. He was instrumental in discovering and developing young mathematicians in Africa through supervision of many postgraduate students at the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, and at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
As we mourn a great leader who inspired, motivated, and moved all of us to become the best versions of ourselves, we cherish the memories, transformative work, and powerful moments that we were honored to share with him.
Prof. Chidume is survived by his lovely wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Ifeoma Chidume, four children and nine grandchildren.
More details to be announced by the family.
May his soul Rest in Peace.
