Hello, my name is Bette (Hoople) Larson, and I have organized this fundraiser on behalf of our Hoople, ND Cemetery. I am the great-granddaughter of Hoople founder, Allen Hoople, who donated the cemetery to the village of Hoople back in its early beginnings.
I am not alone in saying we want the best kept up surroundings for our loved ones - family and friends - who are laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery. Many of us have chosen to be buried in this special place also. In addition to the paid caretakers who mow the lawn, funds are also needed in other areas. With expenses ever on the rise and memorials/donations (which we are most grateful for) being sporadic, I felt a fundraiser for our cemetery was in order. All contributions, no matter the size, will be very much appreciated! A heartfelt thank you to all who are able to offer financial support! For quite some time, there has not been a Cemetery Board where yearly dues, or a $100.00 perpetual care fee were collected, and fundraisers were held.
Volunteers who give their time and efforts are to be sincerely thanked and commended for their work in the cemetery!!
The year the cemetery was established remains unclear, although Allen Hoople had a plat surveyed for the cemetery in June of 1893 for the first addition. The earliest burials were in 1893 and 1894. The second addition to the cemetery was in December of 1944 by George and Annie Hoople (my grandparents). The third addition to the cemetery was in 1985 by Loyd and Leta Oberg. Information is according to the Walsh County Court House, Register of Deeds.
