Hope and Healing for Emily
Donation protected
Emily, our colleague and friend, a mother to 2 ½ year-old Miss Ruby and wife to Mr. Robert Raub, has recently started a new life journey. In April, Emily went to the ER at Abbott Northwestern with severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with advanced neuroendocrine cancer. Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are slow-growing cancers that can occur in any organ that has endocrine cells. NETs are difficult to diagnose and many patients have vague symptoms for eight or nine years before the correct diagnosis is made. Unfortunately, the tumors have often spread to other parts of the body. Because NETs are slow-growing, they don’t respond to most chemotherapy drugs, and very few of the new targeted drugs are effective.
Emily has worked in Public Education for 17 years. Her current role in education is, Librarian of South View Middle School. In her first year at South View, she led a total overhaul of the Library and designed a space to reflect the needs of a 21st Century Learner. Her passion for learning is infectious and she has made an incredible impact on learning in Edina Public Schools. Throughout her work with teachers and kids, she has helped establish a culture that genuinely inspires a drive to learn. She is a humble, kind, resourceful, determined, passionate and dedicated educator. In her work she has given so much to the community, and those fortunate enough to work with her want to give back.
For the reasons above, and because NET’s are rare, Emily and her family must be strong advocates for her healthcare and seek the best treatments and expertise across the country. The funds raised will help support her medical interventions, including treatments that may not be covered, as well as any care or support she needs as a mother to a precious little girl. Emily, let this be your guide to hope and healing. There’s an army of colleagues, friends, students and strangers rooting for you, with full confidence in your will to conquer and overcome cancer.
