On Friday night, October 23, 2015, Hudson suffered a spinal injury during his high school football game. He was airlifted to the hospital, and after some tests it was determined that he had suffered a break in the C4 and C5 vertebrae, plus another break in his lower back. He currently has no feeling from the chest down. Hudson is a senior at Bethany High School, Bethany, OK. He loves football, playing the bass in the BHS orchestra, and hunting and fishing.
Hudson has been accepted to receive therapy at the Craig Rehabilitation Center in Denver. It is estimated that he will be at Craig Rehabilitation at least through January of 2016. The family is facing significant medical and rehabilitation expenses—expenses beyond what the typical American family could ever manage.
National statistics regarding spinal injuries estimate that the first year following an injury, average costs for treatment will range from $342,112 to $1,048,259. Additional costs throughout the lifetime of the patient are predicted to exceed $1-$2 million. The Bethany community is committed to praying for Hudson as well as finding ways to assist with the logistical and financial challenges.
We cannot take away the physical and emotional devastation that Hudson and his family are going through. But we CAN make sure that they do not also suffer a lifetime of medical debt because of this injury. We CAN erase the fear of paying off insurmountable medical costs. We CAN give back to this family that has invested so much in us. We are committed to that end. The community has rallied in full force to support Hudson and his family as they bravely move through this daunting challenge. We would be most grateful for your generous assistance.
In addition to the love we have for Hudson, his mother (Lisa) and his brothers (Jackson and Grayson), Hudson’s father has been a fixture at Bethany Public Schools for most of his career. Tim Haws was the Bethany elementary school principal for twelve years before moving to administration for the school system in 2014. His commitment to excellence has changed the lives of the thousands of students who have benefitted from the Blue-ribbon public school that the Haws family helped to build. The families who have been part of the school know, love and respect the entire Haws family – but never more than now when their true character is being tested.
We ask that you make a contribution as soon as possible. We ask that you make a contribution as often as possible. The need is great and immediate. It is going to require the help of the “village”. We will continue to receive donations at this site for a minimum of two years. ALL donations to this gofundme account will be used to pay medical expenses and supply the necessary adaptations to the Haws home or vehicles. Together, we will provide Hudson with the tools he needs to access life and live it to the fullest. (Only 5% of your donation is used to cover the administrative fee of this website.)
We cannot thank you enough for visiting this site and being part of the solution to this need. Hudson Haws is not a kid who ever sought the spotlight. In fact, he completely prefers to do his best in private and without any attention. He is a fine, soft-spoken, faithful young man who wants nothing more than to be able to walk again. Thank you for praying with us for that miracle. Thank you, too, for participating in the miracle of community. Thank you for helping to lighten the load for the Haws family. We hope that you take great satisfaction from knowing that you are part of our team and that you are making such a dramatic difference at a difficult time.
