Class of 2025 Trip to Portugal-Spain

Hi, my name is Lukas Gibbs. I am currently a JR at Deland High School enrolled in the I.B. (International Baccalaureate) program.

A small group of my fellow classmates and I are trying to plan a trip to Portugal and Spain following our graduation next year (summer of 2025). No this is not your average backpacking through Europe story that every fresh high school grad dreams of. Well not JUST that!

I have been studying art across several mediums and subjects with a great teacher, Mr. Bryan Carson, for my entire high school career and will be continuing do to so throughout my senior year as well! I enjoy Spanish art and culture and would surely gain inspiration for more work of my own on this trip. I am also currently in AP European History and am very intrigued by the history of Spain and Portugal as they were slightly glanced over, so I am thrilled by this opportunity to learn more as we will be visiting historic sites such Charles V’s palace! The trip will be hosted by EF Tours (Education First) which is a fully accredited organization that specializes in educational tours of this kind. We will be accompanied and guided by the EF guides the whole way, sharing their love of these destinations. Not only will we be able to take in the beautiful sights but truly learn the rich history that brought these places to life!

This trip will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for everyone of us involved and quite frankly it won’t happen without your help!! We will be experiencing popular attractions across Spain and Portugal where we will be taking in the local culture through their food, art, and architecture. I am particularly interested in the palaces, forts, and religious buildings such as monasteries that are a part of this tour, as I am fascinated with their architecture and rich history, which will be described to us by tour guides. We will be traveling over 12 days across the Iberian Peninsula to cities such as Barcelona, Granada, Seville, and Lisbon, but I need your help to make it happen! This will be an educational experience for me to learn about new cultures apart from my own as I have never been over seas, but I have always been dreamed of doing so. It will also be a great opportunity for me to spend a truly unique experience with a great group of people for the final, ultimate “FIELD TRIP”!
