ICE Deported our IV Friend, Community Mechanic

Our good friend and loved member of IV's unhoused community was deported by ICE on May 10th, 2022.

For privacy purposes, we withhold his identity. He has helped many, many of us with emergency car repair, through his willful, hard work and great curiosity to learn new skills. He's also been solid company for his friends. He's honestly saved my own car five or eight times, fixing invaluable parts with a limited supply of tools and space. He's a wonderful thing for the community, with mechanic work and solid friendship. He may have saved you or your friend's car too!

This money will go to our friend's survival first-- he's been dropped in Mexico with no resources. We want to help him find shelter and safety. If we can raise enough money, we can also put it toward an immigration lawyer to help him return to his family and friends in CA. We have been quoted a $5000 dollar legal fee with a $2000 down payment for his case.

Witnesses say he was dragged from his car early in the morning by ICE, all the time saying he did not consent to them entering his car or touching him. He is far from any friends or family in Mexico.
