Greg Johanson's Healing Fund

On January 15th, beloved teacher, pastor, therapist, colleague, volunteer, and friend Greg Johanson crashed his car into a semi-truck and sustained multiple injuries (thankfully the driver of the truck Greg crashed into was unharmed).
Greg in ICU
Greg fractured and dislocated his right wrist. This wrist was broken in several places and required surgical repair consisting of plates and screws. He also fractured his left wrist. Greg suffered a significant plateau fracture to his right tibia which required bone grafting, screws, and plates as well. This is the most severe of his injuries and will require much care and physical therapy. He also sustained a transverse process fracture, which is a break on part of the cervical spine, but without spinal nerve injury. Additionally he has fractured ribs and has bruising and pain on various areas of his body. Greg cannot put any weight on his right wrist for 6-8 weeks and cannot put any weight on his right leg for 8-10 weeks. The doctors expect “full” recovery to take nearly a year.
Greg doing well at Fort Vancouver
Greg is currently recovering at Fort Vancouver Convalescence Center in Vancouver, WA. He has been working very hard at his rehabilitation. The physical therapists and occupational therapists at the rehab center have been calling him a “rock star” because of his work ethic and positive thinking. Soon, he will be making the move out of the rehab center to live with his son Leif. There he will continue his rehabilitation until he is able to become independent and return to his home. He is doing well, but is facing a lengthy recovery period.
Despite Greg’s personal injury protection insurance and Medicare coverage, he has incurred considerable expenses from the accident. Greg is semi-retired and since moving from Chicago to the small town of Mill City Oregon he has been unable to rebuild a therapy practice. With the passing of his wife Hope, Greg not only lost the love of his life, but also a significant amount of monthly income. Greg has modified his life to minimize expenses and to live simply so that he can continue to pursue his various interests. In his “retirement” he has dedicated much of his energy into writing and publishing. Greg has published over 175 items in the field of pastoral theology and psychotherapy and has plans to contribute much more. Greg is a co-founder of the Hakomi Institute and Chairman of its Board of Directors. He has served as a Hakomi trainer for over 30 years and has taught throughout the U.S. and overseas. He is the main author of the book "Grace Unfolding: Psychotherapy in the Spirit of the Tao-Te-Ching" (with Ron Kurtz) and editor of the professional journal "The Hakomi Forum". Greg is also the co-editor of the textbook forthcoming from Norton Publishers in May 2015: Hakomi: Mindfulness-Centered Somatic Psychotherapy. He is actively involved in the church, Rotary Club, Habit for Humanity, Chamber of Commerce, professional organizations and many other ventures that help community but bring no financial return.
The money we are seeking will help Greg with the loss of income and expenses incurred from the accident. In addition to helping cover all his medical bills and related expenses, we are hoping to raise enough funds to allow Greg to seek alternative/complementary treatments to aid in his recovery.
Greg and Hope have given so much to us over the years. Let's honor them both and do our very best to help Greg recover in a comfortable and holistic manner. If you are willing and able, please help us reach our fundraising goal by contributing today. If you are unable to contribute funds, we ask that you help in any other way possible, such as through prayers, emails, and other forms of loving support.
