In Memory of Chiderah Obiahuba

Hi everyone, on the evening of Monday May 15th 2023, we learned of the passing of my beloved sister, Chiderah.

The last time we had communicated was through text messages on Wednesday May 10, 2023. I had messaged to check in on her health. She was living alone over 350km away in Ottawa, Ontario, studying Nursing which was her dream career; she loved people, and wanted to support the most vulnerable. However, after her final exams, she became severely ill. She was in and out of the hospital over several weeks.

I messaged her to come home to a family that would support her; where she wouldn’t be alone, and where we can advocate with her to receive better care at the hospital.

When she didn’t wish our mother a happy Mother’s Day, and when we received a call from her manager about not being in contact for several days, we knew something was wrong because this was out of character. So we called the Ottawa police to conduct a wellness check. This led to our family learning of the tragic news.

My sister was a kind-hearted, caring, empathetic, and loving daughter, sister, and friend. If you knew her, then you knew that she was always the first to call or the first to arrive when you needed help. She would go above and beyond for others, sometimes to her own detriment. She overcame many difficult obstacles in her life, but every obstacle made her stronger. That strength and charisma is what drew people toward her. The strength to share your pain and cry with you, the strength to simply listen without judgement, the strength to speak up when others were silent, and the strength to stand strong in her Christian values.

Chiderah was an inspiration to all who crossed paths with her. The outpouring of love from friends and even strangers is a testament to all the lives that Chiderah has touched.

We are proud of her accomplishments, and the positive impact that she made around her in her short life with us. We are devastated by her loss.
We love you and miss you.

Please join us in honouring Chiderah’s legacy and supporting our family through this immensely difficult time. We are currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of Chiderah’s funeral and related expenses.

Thank you kindly for your support.
