Remembering Devin Anderson-Sharples: Kidney Failure

Donation protected
Devin passed away unexpectedly after courageously battling kidney failure at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta, at age 32 on June 7, 2024.

Born on December 30th, 1991, in Calgary, Alberta. Devin attended Jack James High School and later pursued his passion for gardening and landscaping, where his green thumb flourished.

Devin’s passion for gardening seamlessly intertwined with his love for cooking, reflecting his vibrant personality and generous spirit. He cherished sharing meals with friends and family. Devin’s love for food was only surpassed by his ability to turn even the most ordinary gatherings into memorable parties. He had a gift for mischief, especially when teasing those he held dear – a true testament to his unique brand of affection. Additionally, he possessed a hidden talent for billiards, mastering the green felt like a seasoned pro. Whether sinking balls or pints, he always brought his A-game. Devin's adventurous spirit extended to his love for nature; he often found solace and joy while camping under the starry night sky.

As a child, Devin was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes and faced heart complications and conditions, which developed into advanced kidney disease and heart failure.

Devin was the eldest of two brothers Dustin and Dalton and sister Dakota. Devin and his siblings faced hardships growing up and were separated during their childhood. Despite these hardships and their estrangement from their parents, they always found comfort and support in each other. Over the past decade, Devin's younger brother, Dustin, has been by his side as a loving and dedicated caregiver, showcasing their enduring love and loyalty. Their story is a beautiful testament to the power of the sibling bond.

Devin courageously confronted Renal Failure and had to attend Dialysis four times a week. He often depended on his brother Dustin for transportation to and from places, due to health complications including cataracts, which severely affected his vision, infections in his hemodialysis access and recurrent hospitalizations in recent years, ending tragically with heart failure. Despite his challenges, he remained a warrior, continuing to fight courageously.

Kaley and Devin

I got to know Devin over the last 6 years while he lived with Dustin, and I will deeply miss him. From the crumbs on the counter after he made a sandwich, to his eclectic mix of country and rap music blasting in his room. We both loved country music and often swapped great song discoveries with each other. Devin had a knack for humor and loved cracking jokes whenever he could. I'll never forget the time he joked his kidneys were packed and off on a tropical getaway. Though his battles with illness were painful for us all, it was sadly his life’s path and I find comfort in knowing we'll meet him again on the other side and that he’s reunited with loved ones he’s lost along the way - Kaley
