Jeff & Justin Tracy

It's taken a couple of days for me to be able to put some words together on the tragic passing of one of my dearest friends Jeff Tracy! There is not enough time and space to write all of the crazy stories and memories that not only Jeff & I shared but the many friends that were apart of them growing up in Valle Vista in Greenwood. I still remember the first day our families met at the bus stop all those years ago, all the nights spent at the skating rink, to all the days after school playing basketball. I know I can speak for all of his friends and those who were privileged to meet him later in life, was and always will be family.
Jeff fought his demons for most of his life and I am so proud of the fact he was finally able to conquer them years ago. Not only did Jeff conquer his demons but found God in the process. It wasn't just his words it was his actions besides his faith, children and family his sobriety meant the World to him. I remember a couple of years back when Jeff asked if I would attend his baptism, I just remember how proud I was to finally see the man I knew he was capable of. I remember our conversation regarding Rick "Jeff's Brother" and how important it was for him to have Rick next to him while being baptized.
Unfortunately, this past weekend Jeff passed away in his sleep. After speaking with him the day before regarding another one of our friends passing away too soon, he was so excited regarding his future. Jeff was in the process of becoming a recovery specialist and giving back. Jeff was also going to be a proud, which is an understatement first time Grandfather! Jeff was over the moon with excitement not only the fact of being a grandfather but that his daughter had found a man that Jeff was proud to call family.
If losing Jeff was not difficult enough, not many are aware of this, but Jeff's son Justin was tragically killed in a car accident within in 24 hours of Jeff's passing. Justin was involved in an accident on I-69 after getting out of the car to check on the other vehicle Justin was fatally hit by another vehicle. This hit me to my core, many do not know this, but I was the proud Godfather to Justin. I say many do not know because unfortunately while Justin was growing up, I was involved in things beyond my control I thought at the time. Looking back now I realize nothing, no attorney, court, no one should have kept me from the most important things in life.
My thoughts and prayers are with Katelyn, Carrie, Rick and the rest of the extended family. I hope you will join with me in helping them if not financially then with thoughts and prayers in understanding this unimaginable extraordinary tragedy. God Bless, I will never forget this amazing individual!
