Oxygen for Natalie

Donation protected
As most of you know, my mother has been a hair stylist for over 30 years. When her diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension took a turn for the worse in March 2018, she spent a month in the ICU and left with a permanent central line in her chest. Due to many restrictions, she had to stop working altogether but soon realized that she could not survive on Disability Income alone. So, she returned to work 2 days/week along with starting college... and less than two years later, we were faced with COVID-19.

My mother is unable to wear a mask for more than an hour without her blood oxygen saturation levels dropping into the low 80s. Your blood oxygen level is a measure of how much oxygen your red blood cells are carrying. A below-normal blood oxygen level is called hypoxemia, which can lead to complications in body tissue and organs. When her blood oxygen level goes outside the typical range, she begins experiencing symptoms like shortness of breath, headache, chest pain, and confusion.

You can imagine standing on your feet all day that these symptoms are not conducive to your work. As a result, she unfortunately has to remove her mask and, at the very least, wear a face shield... but this is far below sufficient protection for someone who is at high risk of death upon contracting COVID-19.

So, I turn to you, my Facebook family, for a heartfelt plea of your generosity. There is a portable oxygen delivery device that my mother can wear under her mask that will allow her to maintain normal blood oxygen levels while working and going to school during the pandemic. She will benefit from this device even beyond the pandemic, when a typical long workday inevitably takes a toll on her endurance.

This oxygen delivery device is not covered by insurance and my family and I can only partially afford it. We are turning to our friends and family for any amount that they can spare to help us reach our goal. I know my family is not alone in trying to survive this pandemic. I simply find myself feeling helpless unable to support my mother without the help of others. But sometimes, we humbly find ourselves at the mercy of one's generosity.  If you have any amount to spare, my family will be eternally grateful to you in helping keep my mother safe.

Peace and blessings.
