John's Recovery Fund
Last Monday morning, our brother crashed his dirt bike in Florida and was air lifted to a hospital in Panama City. For those of you who know us, that's a long way from home! We are in Ontario, Canada. Our brother, his wife and son had just left Friday for a motocross event as their son is an avid racer. John was not racing, he was just riding the track and was found unconscious. He was immediately airlifted to the hospital where he was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and underwent emergency surgery to place a shunt to relieve the pressure on his brain. To keep him comfortable he was put into a medically induced coma and placed on a ventilator. His sedation has since been reversed, shunt removed and his ventilator removed (by him pulling it out). John has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Thankfully he purchased insurance (we joked about this 2 days before they left, he assured us he had because he is prone to things happening to him, his family lost their home and all possessions in a house fire in Dec 2013, Thank God for fire alarms!!). He will need some extensive OT/PT as he heals. The doctors made our sister in law aware that the damage affects his frontal lobe. His speech is starting to show progress but his movement of his right side is very minimal. We are hoping that he will soon be home with all of us when a bed becomes available so that we may help him on his road to recovery.
