Joy Cole

Hi, we are a group of school mum friends who have been watching our friend, Joy, go through the most horrendous couple of months. We have tried to capture everything below......

Many of you reading this are lucky enough to know and love Joy Cole. She is a beloved wife to Andrew and mother to 4 beautiful young children aged 8 months - 9 years old and of course a friend and colleague to many. She has dedicated her life to her family and her career as a radiographer in the NHS. Her and her family are also avid supporters and members of local theatre / amateur dramatic companies and give so much back to the community.

In December 2022 (and just months into her precious maternity leave) our beautiful friend Joy, was diagnosed with cancer. She was told the lump in her leg was a sarcoma and it was aggressive. Treatment would begin almost immediately leaving no time to digest the diagnosis or the impact it would have on her and the family.

What should have been a magical time, enjoying maternity leave came crashing down. Cancer treatment has been gruelling with long distance travel required to Newcastle for chemotherapy, involving long periods away from her 4 children and husband. The family have all been amazing, lead as always by Joy and her unending positivity and determination to fight this cancer. She is an inspiration to everyone.

In March 2023 the devastating news was that full amputation of the leg (from the pelvis) would be required and surgery happened very quickly. Again there was little time to consider the significant change this brings to her life (personally and professionally) and the future support she may need. That is why we have set up this Go Fund Me page.

The care she has received has been second to none but her life and the lives of her family have changed forever. Joy is courageous and strong and amazed us all with her tenacity. We want to help and hope that you do too.

We're turning to her friends and family to build a secure foundation of support. The figure proposed is based on initial costs to help adapt the home, provide accessible transport, support her continued cancer treatment, bridge the gap of being unable to work and help her start to rebuild her life with her beautiful family.

Joy has made friends wherever she goes all her life. Her kindness, warmth and wit shine through. We hope this reaches as many of them as possible so we can send her a huge message of love.
