Help Katie Kick it at Harvard

Donation protected

Howdy, folks! Yours and my favorite shero, the fierce and femtastic Katie Breen, is at it again - taking on rewarding challenges that add up to big changes. Katie is headed to Harvard this fall (yeah, that Harvard) to pursue her master's degree in public health, and she needs our help!

Homegirl has been hustlin' in her full-time job, freelance work, and scholarship applications between popping in to our earbuds and on TED stages, but she still needs our help - education is expensive, y'all. Specifically, Katie is looking to raise $6000 to offset the cost of her tuition + scholastic expenses.

After polling the Facebook audience a few months ago on scholarship avenues she may be missing, I chimed in with an "I'll throw $20 at the Katie Education Fund, no problem. I bet a lot of other peeps would, too." Katie has inspired many people in her community to many different forms of action over the years, and so here we are getting the ball rolling to send our podcasting, empowering, educating friend off on her latest and greatest call to duty.

Without further ado, here's Katie in her own words:

"Hi there,

I will be pursuing my master's in public health in the fall at Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health. I hope to use my education to improve quality of and expand access to comprehensive women's healthcare. Particularly, I would like to focus on the health disparities that make it harder for women, and especially women of color or in lower-income brackets, to access and afford reproductive healthcare, including breast and uterine cancer screenings, comprehensive sex education, contraception, maternal care, and intimate partner violence/sexual assault interventions.

How do you know your money isn’t going to waste? I have a proven record of academic  and professional  excellence, and have shown my commitment to women's health through passion projects such as my podcast, Femtastic, and public speaking such as at TEDxBoulder  and Ignite Boulder.

I hope to use my education to become a leader in women's health in the United States.

I am raising money to help offset the high cost of tuition for this 1.5-year program. I have received a scholarship of 25% tuition remission from Harvard, as well as a private scholarship of $5000. The goal of this fundraiser is to raise 10% of the remaining cost of the program, which is just shy of $60,000.

I would love your support. All donations will go directly to tuition and school-related expenses, and ANY amount is appreciated. Even $5 will buy me transportation to school on a blustery Boston day!

With immense gratitude,

Katie"

Alright y'all, let's do this!
