Caffeine Underground: A Space at the Intersection of Serendipity & Destiny
Caffeine Underground is a sanctuary, a gathering space, and an incubator for creativity, connection, and empowerment. Created by Ian Ford, a DJ, producer, and Reiki master with deep ties to the LGBTQ+ and goth/industrial communities, Caffeine Underground opened in 2017 with a mission to create a space where artists could come together, perform, and exist freely without the burden of financial strain.
Now, Caffeine Underground’s legendary owner is passing the torch, and we have the chance to revitalize it for the next generation. But we have to move fast: the lease ends March 31st, and we need to secure a $50K down payment in order to carry the Caffeine Underground torch forward.
In order to demonstrate how serious we are about this; we are throwing a 3-week-long music and arts festival between March 10th and March 31st. This ongoing, 21-day festival will feature international performers via digital portal who love Caffeine Underground as well as local performers in New York City.
Back this project and become part of the story.
Once we secure funding, our plans for revitalizing Caffeine Underground include:
-Establishing The Supply Closet, a tattoo parlor and artist supply share space. Our tattoo artist is excited to host queer philosophy seminars and tattoo masterclasses.
-Partnering with bookstores around the world to feature their books in our book corner/on our shelves, as a way of spotlighting thinkers and writers who come from different parts of the world.
-Turning part of the store into a surf and skate shop, hosting artist-led skate deck painting events, and featuring brands with sustainable wax for skate and surf decks to highlight environmentalism.
-Incorporating a greater variety of vegan food and drink options in the cafe to center sustainability and animal rights.
-Establishing the Warped Summer Series—an acoustic performance series featuring bands that have previously played on Warped Tour, as well as those participating in this summer's 30th-anniversary reunion, complete with album signings.
-Offering free yoga classes, singing classes, and yoga-for-singers classes.
-Providing rehearsal and recording spaces for musicians, dancers, actors, and bands.
-Selling books, zines, crafts, and albums created by members of our community in the shop.
-Partnering with local music stores to make musical instruments available at the cafe.
-Continuing to host concerts, film screenings, art installations, book launches, craft markets, tarot card readings, writing groups, music productions and technology courses, and discussion groups.
If we do not meet the deadline of raising $50,000 by the end of March, the funds will go toward curating the space that we are envisioning in another location.
Either way, we're building something revolutionary here—something that nurtures creativity, artistry, and community in a space that is free from judgment, financial strain, and limitations. With your help, we will build the road to Atlantis. (Learn more about Atlantis at caffeineunderground.com).
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Let’s create something that transcends boundaries and connects us all.
