Keep Cancer from Stealing a Dream

Donation protected
My husband was diagnosed with oral cancer in January 2018.  He went through 35 radiation treatments, and 7 weekly chemo therapy treatments to beat it, working full time the whole while.

He finished treatment in May of 2018, and in mid-June, he retired after working for 40+ years, always planning for the future and taking care of our children. We moved to North Carolina, to be with family, and to finally live his dream of spending more time with his sons, taking them fishing, visiting the Smithsonian during Spring break, and being together.

Cancer entered the picture again in November, 2018 when he was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer. He started treatments again in December, going through multiple hospitalizations, and wasting to half his size. After the first treatment looking ineffective, he was switched to another chemo drug. It’s stopped progression of the nodules, but his oncologist is looking for a “home run” that will shrink the tumors, and give my husband and sons a little time to live the dream worked for for a lifetime, so is switching him to a new drug as of this week.

The new drug isn’t the standard treatment (but we’ve done those), so we’re looking at paying ourselves. Our hope is for improvement in his quality of life that will let him watch our sons play baseball, graduate to high school, and maybe be able to give my husband a little bit of the dream he worked for, but cancer is stealing from him.
