Kevin Baisley Fund

Our brother Kevin Baisley was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow, which is rare in adults.

With the care and support of family and friends, Kevin was transferred from Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute in Portland, Maine to Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) in New York City (#2 cancer center in the US) earlier this month. His wife of 4+ years Kim Baisley and their 2 year-old son Josh have temporarily relocated to New York to be closer to Kevin and our family. Kim is also due to have their second child, Baby Girl Baisley, on June 5th.

This traumatic news in Kevin's, Kim's, and Josh's lives was unexpected and has turned their worlds, as well as ours, upside down. Kevin is the healthiest member of our family - vegetarian, practically lives outdoors, runs with his rescue dog Boo, plays outside with Josh whenever the Maine weather allows them, hikes Maine's tallest peaks when he can, to name a few.

The MSK doctors and health care professionals are doing all they can to help Kevin live to celebrate more wedding anniversaries with Kim and see his children grow up. As his siblings, we created this fundraiser to help ease the financial stresses that cancer causes so that Kevin and Kim can focus on their health and their children's health.
  • More than 42% of the 9.5 million people diagnosed with cancer from 2000 to 2012 drained their life's assets within two years, according to a 2016 study published in the American Journal of Medicine.
  • Cancer patients are 2.65 times more likely to file for bankruptcy than those without cancer, and bankruptcy puts them at a higher risk for early death, according to 2016 research published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
If you can, please donate to the Kevin Baisley Fund; any amount would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot make a financial contribution, please share this GoFundMe link with your network.

Kevin is currently the sole income provider for his family, so your donations will go to immediate use for his family's monthly expenses, including their mortgage, childcare, and preparing to pay out-of-pocket health insurance and health care. As you can imagine, it's difficult for Kim to try and get a job when she's 3 months away from having their baby.

Kevin's treatment is estimated to take 2 to 3 years. Kevin has already started a 6- to 8-week clinical trial led by his hematologist Dr. Mark B. Geyer, a world-renowned expert on acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). If he wasn't a part of this clinical trial, his medications would cost $1,000,000 during these next few weeks; one of the pills alone is $120,000 per year. This treatment plan is Kevin's best chance of survival!

Thank you for taking the time to read and share why we are fundraising for our brother Kevin - who continues to stay positive, still jokes around and teases us, and takes in the fresh air when he can (on MSK's roof deck) "even if it is city air."

Love his sisters and brothers,
Layla. James, Keith, PJ, and Becca
