Kristi Benson's road to wellness and healing

As many of you know, since 2017 Kristi has been battling chronic pancreatitis, that has in turn lead to full pancreatic failure, which has then lead to multiple stent exchanges in order to try to keep her pancreas somewhat functioning. It has been an uphill battle to say the least, with so many scares that we have prayed so hard about, and at the beginning of September, Kristi and Grant met with a surgeon out of Dallas with Baylor who is going to hopefully give Kristi her life back. Kristi is having a total pancrectomy auto islet cell transplantation as well as a splenectomy. The recovery for this is extremely extensive. It is 7-10 days in the ICU, then roughly 2 weeks in a medsurg unit, the 2 weeks in an apartment that is right by Baylor so that if there are complications they are right there. In all they are looking at 6 weeks in Dallas alone, and 18 months till total recovery. During that 6 week time frame, Grant will of course be by Kristi's side, so he will not be able to work during that time. As we all know, medical situations don't stop the bills and life.
Due to Kristi's illness, she has had to give up one thing she loves, and that was ER nursing, where she worked at Midland Memorial for 7 years. This has left them to only depend on Grant's job with Midland Fire Department and some side jobs Grant has taken in order to keep them afloat.
Through all of this, the two of them have never given up hope. They have never asked for help through this journey, but it is time they get some, which is why I decided to start this GoFundMe for them. MFD and PFAM local 4405 are also doing a burger cookout to help raise money for them, and I have seen those help families so much in times of need. It is October 4 from 11-1 at Central fire station in Midland on Wall Street (they make delicious food, those guys can sure throw down on the grill)
Please give what you can to this fantastic family. Kristi is the strongest person I know, she has balanced marriage and being a mother on top of being extremely well, better than most of us could ever imagine. Through this Kristi would still drop whatever she is doing to help a friend out in any way she can. She is selfless in her sickness and hasn't let it stop her from being the beautiful person that she is. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
