Kristi's Fearless Fight Against Brain Cancer
Hi, I'm Nancy Harris. Kristi Johnson is my absolutely lovely and amazing niece and friend. In her words from Facebook here is a glimpse of her story....
"Good morning, Facebook friends and family
If you have seen my most recent posts, you know I have been having a difficult time with my health. After five+ weeks of daily headaches, dizziness, and vision changes I was convinced by my aunt and bestie to go to the hospital.
The emergency department doctor that I initially met with was concerned that, while migraines are not uncommon for me, what I was describing didn't fit my "typical migraine pattern" and ordered a CAT scan. That scan unfortunately revealed a fairly large mass in my right frontal lobe. I was admitted for monitoring and further testing. I had CT scans and MRIs yesterday to get a better look at my intruder. The bugger is about the size of an orange (6cm).
Tomorrow I will be having surgery to biopsy the mass so we can learn exactly what the heck it is.
Very scary stuff, I know. But I want you all to know that as of now I am ok. Amazingly, I have not lost much neurological function. My doctor's and nurses are all impressed that I can walk and speak and have not been having seizures. Hopefully I will continue to maintain function. I am strong and stubborn, so I am confident that I can get through this . All the support from you all will help too . I will do my best to keep everyone updated on my status."
Unfortunately, after Kristi's surgery we were given the most horrific news. This is Cancer and not a little one. We are devastated. We are overwhelmed. We are in an urgent crisis.
Next step is to take action to support Kristi and her wonderful family. She is married to a generous and extremely nurturing and caring man, David Johnson. Incredibly through all this he continually reaches out to his extended family to check in on us. Kristi and David also have two fantastic kids, Harper her oldest is 7 and his little sister Spencer is 5. They are beautifully resilient as kids generally are but they need our support in any way possible.
Over the next days, weeks, months the Johnson family will be traveling to see specialists for Kristi to receive the best care possible. I can only imagine the expense and emotional toll this will take on the family.
So, many friends and family have asked, "How can I help!?!".
This is a beginning. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Every prayer is accepted. I/We want to be sure that David and the kids can feel as much peace of mind and body as possible so that they can be present and share their time with Kristi.
We will also create a meal train. Again, anything we can do to help reduce the stress on this loving family is greatly appreciated. Anything to help declutter their minds so that they can focus on each other and truly be present for one another.
I want you all to know that David & Kristi feel your love and support and continue to be extremely grateful.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We need our village and you are all greatly appreciated more than you know.
