Help Librarian Mychal Threets spread library love

This is a story about Mychal Threets: The kid who loved libraries and then grew up to be a librarian.

It's also the story of him prioritizing his mental health and NOW has a social media series PBS. But look at this shining light of a person and his response to the negativity of the internet:

People say things about me every day. The library is my sanctuary, it's always been my sanctuary, it always will be. If I'd left my library because of people "being mean" I'd have left long ago. Does it hurt? Sure! I'm human.

But! I only respond to things people say if it's brought to my attention that a library kid saw what was being said, if they stumbled across it.

The kindness that people show me is overwhelming in the best of ways! Y'all tell me that you got a library card, you tell me which books you're reading.

My mental health struggle has been scarily real since I was 8-years-old. I've built coping strategies, I meet with my therapist, l'm on medication (live, laugh, lexapro). Being a library worker is HARD. The library stories are literal joy, they are the reason I go to the library each day.

Everyone deserves to tell their silly, unhinged stories."

He has forgiven one of the instigator and is moving on.

The name of the person he forgive was removed because... he forgave them. The positivity continues.

His story is just beginning. To that end, I reached out to him and asked if I could help him set up a GoFundMe page. He said yes, but in typical Mychal style... it's to help get books to kids.

I'm only facilitating this with his blessing and input. In case you're wondering: I'm not taking a penny. It's all Mychal's.

He's pursuing what he describes as the "Library Afro Revolution" which "gift books to library kids to make them feel seen and encourage the necessity of literacy ✨" As it is not a non-profit - it is simply Mychal using any monies as he sees fit...
