Life-Changing Program for Andrew, my son with ASD

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Pamela and I am fundraising so we can stay in Texas for my Autistic son Andrew’s special schooling. This is a life changing opportunity for my son. Unfortunately, traditional schools and even online programs were unable to provide the understanding, skills and support that Andrew needs as a young Adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

I’m doing this fundraiser to help my autistic sons dreams come true. His dream is to be able to care for his own needs as a skilled and employable adult. He wants to experience the joy of being a self-sufficient young Adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We want to continue to be there to help others in their time of need.

To achieve these goals, Andrew not only needs the training and skills necessary to open up doors to get a job. He also needs help gaining the soft skills of life to get and maintain a good job. Those interpersonal, networking and social skills unfortunately do not come naturally to young adults that are autistic. They need to be learned and that will be part of the training that Andrew will be getting with your help. So thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

My son flourished in the structured environment of Elementary and High School. He even won the Presidential Award for being an outstanding student in his school district. He gave of his time and pushed past his autistic boundaries to tutor his classmates. Yet, when it was time to start College, a traditional college campus was overwhelming and intimidating. Then he tried taking online classes during the Pandemic. This presented its own set of challenges.

Being raised by a single parent that has been battling life threatening health issues has also taken its toll on my son. Even after several surgeries and with the ongoing care of skilled physicians I’m still battling serious health issues. Yet, instead of giving in to despair, I’m reaching out for help and have been on a journey to find a solution for my son.

Our journey for a solution has brought us to Texas and the nonpareil school for autistic young adults. They provide a safe haven and place for Andrew to fit in with a group of peers without feeling like the odd one out or fear of being bullied.

This is a wonderful opportunity and Andrew has been awarded a Scholarship that will cover almost half of his tuition. Yet, there are many other expenses for us to be able to live in Texas near his school. That is why I’m reaching out through GoFundme for help.

The nonPareil “program focuses on growing skills that enable students to work on teams, thrive in a professional environment, build really cool technology, all while finding their passion and reaching their goals.”

Andrew turned 20 in May and has been floundering and feeling hopeless. Now, he’s hopeful! So eager to keep learning and gain the skills to lead a productive life. Thank you for helping us to get through this challenging time and for being a part of this exciting next chapter in Andrew’s life.
