Help Lorelei play Volleyball

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Drea, and I am fundraising so my daughter can participate in Volleyball this season. Lorelei fell in love with Volleyball back in 2019 when she was 10, through our local city Rec league. However, just as she was beginning to get good at it, Covid hit, and all sports through our City’s recreation program shut down. During this time the City’s recreation department decided to stop funding a Volleyball program, so it was permanently canceled. So that left Club level Volleyball as the only option. Lorelei has been growing so much through various skills clinics and All levels programs over the past year, which I would sign her up for here and there whenever I could afford it, but this fall she was really excited to tryout for the actual Club Team.

So here we are, tryouts were October 1st, they were really hard, and she did it! My 13 year old made it on a team as a setter, her favorite position! I knew it wouldn’t be cheap, we have done seasons of soccer and softball when the kids were little. However, we were not prepared for how expensive a sport Volleyball is and how much of a financial commitment this would truly be. This goes far beyond what we set aside, we budgeted in the hundreds, not thousands.

Lorelei loves Volleyball so much and I have seen the positive impact it has on her confidence, self image, ability to communicate and work well with others, and her relationship with her own health as she enters this difficult stage of young adulthood. All these things are so important for a teenage girl and I don’t want to take this opportunity away from her just because we can’t afford it. Lorelei really wants to play Volleyball in high school next year. So we have to make this work, this 8th grade year is pivotal, because you can bet all the other girls that make it on the High school team would have played at least one season of club level volleyball if not more.

It doesn’t seem fair that sports cost so much and are so exclusive, I feel like kids should be able to play the sports they love and participate no matter their economic background, but we are gonna find a way to make it work, because I want to do my best to give her opportunities I didn’t have. So any small amount of help is so much appreciated. The season costs $4,500 total, the SCVA fee (Southern California Volleyball association) is going to be another $200, and then there is a tournament at the end that I don’t know the cost of but they said it will involve traveling and staying at a hotel in Vegas so it will probably be another $500+ dollars or so for that. Anyways, thanks for any kindness and generosity you may send our way, any little bit of contribution will help us make ends meet.

With Love,
Drea
