Love and Support for McBride! #RobStrong

As Shannon McBride’s art students, we only occasionally heard about Rob before his cancer diagnosis. The updates here and there, but not to the depth that it has become. The updates we get about Rob’s treatment, his lumberjack manliness, and of course his weekly yoga group, have made all of us closer to Shannon and Rob and turned this art class into a second family. Shannon McBride has inspired hundreds of art students throughout her career and has been leading her classes with grace and poise through this time of their life.

Rob was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic lung cancer (never smoked, everyone asks!) in November of 2017, at which time he was unable to work and retired from his teaching position. A few weeks ago, Rob’s health started to decline and Shannon was needed at home to help care for him full time, at which point she took a leave of absence. For the last two-plus years, Ms.McBride has used her personal and sick days allotted through the school district to care for Rob. Although generous, they are used up and have required her to take days without pay and paying for their healthcare coverage out of pocket.

We have all been with Rob and Shannon on this journey since the start. Since the first day she came into the classroom with the news, we have listened with empathy and compassion and tried to wrap our high schooler brains around this unimaginable diagnosis. That is what we are asking from you today. To have compassion and empathy for this deserving family that has been dealt with a deck that none of us want to be dealt with. Whether that means donating one dollar or just sharing this message it doesn’t matter.

We invite you to support Shannon and Rob financially, however, we understand that may not be possible for everyone. We would ask that you consider posting this to social media or emailing it to any contacts you may have that have been impacted by Shannon and Rob. If you can share a personal story of how they have affected your life and what it has meant to you, that would mean the world! You sharing your story of connection may inspire others to share their stories, or support financially.

McBride and Rob are at the end of this journey now and can use all the love, support, prayers and beautiful intention that you can send them. Let's help this family focus on the care and peace that Rob will need at the end of this journey and band together to relieve the financial stress out of their situation.
