Lexi Grace’s Fight Against Leukemia
Donation protected
Alexandra (Lexi) Grace Johnston was diagnosed with Leukemia last Monday evening, December 3, 2018. What started as a cold and ear infection quickly turned into fatigue and leg pain. On Monday morning, she was examined by her local pediatrician and was immediately transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). After several additional days of testing, her Leukemia was specifically identified as Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), cancer of the blood and bone marrow. When Lexi arrived at CHOP, her blood counts were so low that she needed blood transfusions before the additional testing could begin. Over the next several days, Lexi had surgery to insert a port, a bone marrow biopsy, more transfusions and several spinal taps in which chemo was introduced to kill off cancer cells in her spinal fluid. In addition, Lexi had chemotherapy infusions on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon. These treatments were the first of the initial induction phase that will last 4 weeks. Lexi will be undergoing treatments for at least 3 years at CHOP in Philadelphia for ALL Cell B Leukemia
It would be an understatement to say that Lexi (and her parents, Patty and Ethan) will have several challenging years ahead to maneuver through, physically, emotionally and financially. So many people have offered support and wanted to know what they can do to help. For those who have requested to make gift card or other monetary donations, this GoFundMe page has been created to centralize support for Lexi.
Please feel free to share this with family and friends who would like to follow Lexi's journey to recovery and send positive thoughts, prayers, and support.
