HELP LUC Grad Student & Family Forced Out of Home

Donation protected
We are raising emergency funds for an (amazing) Loyola University Chicago graduate student (who wishes to remain anonymous) who is getting evicted from their home with their young children and spouse by 4/30. That's two weeks from now (4/12).
They're getting forced out before the end of the school year, so that their children would have to change schools in the last quarter.
They're getting forced out in a pandemic.

Despite the current eviction moratorium and working with Legal Aid as a go-between in mediation, their landlord has proceeded with terminating their lease (we think illegally) and has threatened to triple their rent if they challenge him further. The landlord is selling the home and the student and their family have been unable to pay a portion of their rent because they both lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

The family is scrambling to find a place to live and "slowly giving up hope". They've been struggling even to put food on the table as receiving other COVID-related unemployment benefits has now disqualified them for food stamps, according to the office that they've been in touch with.

We've connected them to Loyola resources such as CARE  and HERFF , but CARE only has offered a loan and they are too in debt to accept. They are waiting on hearing more about a grant from HERFF, but the amount and timing is yet unknown.

Bottom line - this graduate student & family is struggling to just SURVIVE during the pandemic. We CANNOT let them lose their shelter, their food, and all/any sense of stability.

Your contributions will go directly to the family to support the first couple months of their rent, a security deposit, moving and storage expenses, food, and gas assistance.

ANY amount that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
