Brian’s Recovery!

For those who don’t know me, my name is Shari and Brian Larkin is my 12 year old nephew.

On Thursday, June 8th, Brian sustained a severe head and brain injury during a tragic accident while camping with his family in Wekiva Springs in Apopka, FL. Because his injuries are so severe, the entire family including mom and dad (Mandy and Josh), little sister Adalyn, and their 2 dogs are currently staying in the hospital and with other family surrounding them that live in Orlando, FL and will need to remain inpatient in the ICU at Arnold Palmer Children’s hospital for the foreseeable future as they navigate the uncertainty and volatility of Brian’s condition. Currently, Brian has undergone one brain surgery to place a pressure gauge and a drain to help relieve pressure on his brain due to multiple fractures in his skull and a dangerous subdural hematoma. He is receiving constant scans and being monitored round the clock in the ICU with the potential for a more serious and extremely risky surgical procedure with notoriously poor outcomes to come.

If you know our family, Brian is the light of our lives. He is so incredibly smart, funny, and an absolute joy. This freak accident has devastated our entire family to our core. To say we are devastated is an absolute understatement. Being so far from home, both Mandy (a Pinellas County teacher) and Josh (a Largo firefighter, unable to work to be with Brian) and with no chance of coming home in the near future, we are raising monies to help pay for Brian’s medical bills and recovery directly, starting immediately. Every penny raised will go to Josh and Mandy to cover his expenses that we know will be astronomical due to the severity and nature of his injury.
