Maggie Mae's Transplant Journey
Donation protected
First, I want to thank EVERY member of my family and friends for sharing my journey to find a kidney donor. As many of you know, I found a match. The transplant. was scheduled for August 31st. but due to unforeseen circumstances, that surgery had to be canceled. The campaign to find a donor was started from the beginning.
Typically an organ recipient will remain on the transplant list 3+ years before a viable donor becomes available. Today I received a call from
my transplant team at MUSC in Charlestion, SC that a donor has become available. I am not the primary recipient but secondary. If the primary does not match I will receive a call within 24-48 hours and emegency surgery will be scheduled. I have been pushed to the top of the transplant list, unbeknowst to me! If it is God's plan that this kidney is intended for another, I will pray for them and hold fast to my belief that my turn is just around the corner.
This brings me to the purpose of my campaign. I never expected things to move so quickly and honestly thought that there would be more time to secure funds to aide me through this process and healing. I'm will be out of work three months, possibly longer. After surgery I will be in the hospital 3-4 days. I then have to stay in a hotel near the hospital for 7+ days. I have to go back every morning for testing and intravenous drugs that will assist my body from rejecting the implant and help with the fact that I'll be immuno compromised.
My insurance covers the surgery but nothing else. First I have to get a hotel for two weeks. That in itself in Charleston SC during vacation season is going to be crazy. I'm going to have meals and gas costs from all the running back and forth from hospital to hotel. I'm going to be out work for 3+ months. I am a single Momma. I am our only source of income and my girls are my ALL. I have rent, car payment, insurance, etc... Every day bills for me and the girls to survive. I'll have costs associated with having to travel from Myrtle Beach to Charleston once a week for 10 weeks for appointments. I'm stressing over the smallest things, such as school is starting. How am I going to afford the girls clothes and supplies if I'm not working? This is Anna's first year and Layla's last of elementary school, special years. How much of it am I going to miss during the healing process? I am extremely overwhelmed and utterly unprepared.
You know I hate to ask and I know things are tight for everyone right now, but if you are able and can find it in your heart to donate it would be greatly appreciated. If you are unable it is fully understandable. I ask that everyone please share so that it can reach as many people as possible.
If I do not receive a donor in the immediate future any and all funds donated will be held until such time as they are needed for my transplant journey.
Again, I thank you for your time, consideration, shares and most of all, your prayers. Much love.
