MegaCycle 2021

We are planning to attempt a 1000+ mile cycling and radio adventure from Lands End to Cape Wrath and then on to John O Groats.
Originally, we planned to do this expedition in August 2020 but, had to postpone the venture. The plan now, is to start at Land End on August 1st 2021
We plan to operate with our amateur radio equipment along the whole of the route using various radio frequencies and modes available to us. We plan to operate APRS and WSPR from the bikes as well as 2 metres FM simplex (and through repeaters) along the route.
The adventure will be undertaken by myself and my 16 year old daughter Lauren.
For the majority of the route, we will be cycling unsupported at present but, we plan to get the amateur radio community to assist us where possible.
The main aim of the venture is to see how effective vhf radio will work from bicycles on an extended trip.
Our biggest problem at the moment is getting back to Southeast England at the end of the event.
The fund target is £5000. The estimated cost of the adventure is significantly less that that (under £2K) but, we plan to raise funds for the RNLI during the event.
The project will not just raise funds for the RNLI but will also raise awareness of amateur radio as a scientific hobby that can can be linked into other interests for people of all ages.
We will be using social media throughout the venture and, we will be using our radio equipment to plot our position on a map.
We plan to post daily updates on to social media as and when we can. We will be posting via the Kent Active Radio Amateurs Facebook page and sharing posts to other groups.
