Memorial for John Walck
Donation protected
John A. Walck, MD, passed away at his home surrounded by family on June 30, 2018, at the age of 67 from complications due to scleroderma.
Following his wishes, the family donated his body to medical science in order to further research in this area so that others could be spared from this devastating disease. 100% of donations to this Go Fund Me account will be given to the medical team investigating his illness.
He was a beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a loving man and devoted physician. He was born at the Lutheran Mission Hospital in Yagaum, Madang, Papua New Guinea. He attended high school at St. Peters in Brisbane, Australia, where he met his wife Pam. While at St. Peters he competed in cross country and served on the rugby team as breakaway. He continued his education at the University of Queensland, receiving his Medical degree in 1976.
During his 35 year medical career, he served as a Family Practice physician who specialized in wholistic medicine. He integrated natural approaches with conventional medicine by employing aspects of lifestyle, nutritional, and natural therapies, and had a gift for combining the aspects of Body, Mind, and Spirit. He was always interested in going upstream to identify the cause of a condition. He spent his last years documenting his philosophy, life, and experience in two books, "The Spirituality Of Medicine" and "In the Spirit of Health."
At the age of 58, he developed scleroderma, which later progressed to include calcinosis cutis and myositis. This disease relentlessly and progressively took the excellent health he had invested in during his life. He endured this horrific illness with strength and grace. At every stage, he managed to be as independent as humanly possible, and have gratitude for the parts of his body that still functioned.
John is survived by his loving wife, Pam, of 45 years; his mother; his 4 children; 9 grandchildren; and his 3 brothers.
