Ocean Globe Race Leg 1 Southampton - Cape Town

Hello there my name is David Collins, I hope you will be able to contribute to my fundraiser for the opportunity to join the crew of yacht Explorer in the Ocean Globe Race 2023.

I served in the Royal Air Force for 31 years. and during that time I was introduced to offshore sailing, which I loved. Since leaving the Air Force 12 years ago sailing opportunities have been scarce. I did however participate in 5 legs of the Clipper 19-20 Round the World Race, totally self-funded through life savings.

A crew position has arisen at the last minute for Leg 1 of The Ocean Globe Race on Yacht Explorer and I would so much like the opportunity to apply for the position but I need assistance with the costs of securing a place. £250 - OGR registration, £300 crew insurance, £600 victualling, £1500 miscellaneous costs, total £2650.

The Ocean Globe Race Following the hugely successful 50th Anniversary Golden Globe Race in 2018, and again in 2022, McIntyre Adventure is proud to launch the 50th anniversary celebration of that first fully crewed round the world race. This retro Ocean Globe Race (OGR) takes to the high seas with 14 teams on Sept 10th from Ocean Village, following the same route as the clipper ships and the inaugural 1973 Whitbread Race in similar affordable yachts.
