Operation De-Skunk the Britton Home
Donation protected
Here's the account of what happened to Aaron & Jody Britton's house recently, as told by them:
"Thursday night 5/25, a skunk wandered into our home and immediately startled and began a spraying spree. It sprayed multiple times, in multiple areas of our home. (Including the dogs.)
We contacted insurance the next day, but felt push back immediately. We also contacted ServPro in the meantime to come and see what it would take to clean up our house. They stated that the longer the oils sat (while we waited for insurance), the more the damage there would be. So we had to act.
We hired ServPro and they got to work for the next three days trying to clean and air out our house (as the smell penetrated EVERYTHING in our home). They removed the furniture, rugs, curtains, pillows, and any other porous items from the areas that were hit the hardest to try and clean them. None of it could be saved.
Unfortunately, the limited service we were able to hire ServPro for didn't help much. They told us that most likely, the oils had penetrated the wood floors and drywall. We have moved on to repainting most of our upstairs living area. We are pulling out all the stops to clean the wood floors multiple times a day with every internet trick we can find to avoid having to replace them.
So far, the damage has come to $9766. If the floors need to be replaced, we anticipate the number climbing to around $18,000."
=====
UPDATE (14 June): Because of generous donations of furniture, and a flooring quote coming in less than anticipated (we don't have to pull floors, sanding and refinishing is sufficient! yay!) - we are now looking at an estimated dollar amount of $10,000.
=====
UPDATE (26 June): Because of so many generous donations offline, the Brittons have declared this campaign fully funded!! (The GoFundMe campaign target has been lowered accordingly.) Thank you all so much for your generosity!!
=====
As friends of the Britton family, we would be grateful for any generosity to help cover this unexpected large expense for their family that their insurance company has refused to cover. Thank you!
