Otto's Operation - Perineal Hernia Required.

Halo, my name ish Otto. I'm luvable boi, happy gwo lucky, active and I luv to go to farm and rwide the bwig twacktor. Mummy says I'm 10 and I'm a long hwaired Duckshun. I av a bwig pwobem. I cannot go dodo. My bumbum hurts when I push. Mummy twies to help, but I no like her touching my bumbum. It hurts. I twy to cwean myself but yech! Stinky poo & bwuud.

Hi, I am Meng, Otto's mummy. Otto had to undergo emergency surgery last August 2020. His colon was pinched as he had an Inguinal (abdominal cavity) Hernia and Perineal Hernia (left and right side of the rectum). This was major surgery. The surgeon at the University of Guelph (Vet Teaching Hospital) was able to correct the Inguinal Hernia and the Right Perineal Hernia. They did not perform the left Perineal Hernia as it was too much stress for his tiny body to undergo a huge surgery at once. I had hoped that with proper care and maintenance, we would not need another surgery. Unfortunately, Otto's left Perineal Hernia needs to be repaired. His colon is bent in that area and it prevents him to have a proper bowel movement. I have tried to help him push the colon ie to straighten it. But he will no longer allow me to help him. The straining has caused him to be compacted (stool getting stuck & hard) and has to be manually removed by a gloved finger or enema. This has also caused his anus to split and bleed. Therefore he no longer allows me to clean him as he is very sore.

Otto's Vet stated that Otto requires the hernia repaired ASAP, otherwise, the other alternative is to put him to sleep. This is a very expensive surgery costing between $7,000 to $10,000. Hernia correction surgery for a dog is a major operation. Otto needs this surgery as soon as possible.

Otto is my little boy on four legs, he travels with me everywhere and to the farm (where I work). He loves hunting for daikon, carrots or peas & to ride the tractor with me while I till the fields. In fact, he is the quality controller (QC) of the vegetable quality - he determines the sweetness of the vegetables if I do not have the Refractometer on hand. He is just as accurate as the Refractometer (BRIX% test).

I am appealing to the public to help save this little guy and ease his suffering from pain where surgery can prolong his health and life. He is so full of life even with his suffering. Please help. You would have done the same thing if this was your little boy too.
