Pencils For DeVos

Donation protected
Newly appointed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos is wondering where the pencils are.  Let's help her find them!

In the US public education system, teachers often self-fund their classroom supplies. Clever teachers develop their own effective means of loss prevention. As a former public school teacher, I resorted to an exchange program called Loafers for Lead, in which a student exchanged their shoe for a pencil (most students never forgot to give me back the supplies I paid for...most of them).

The National Center for Education Statistics cites 3.1 million FTE educators employed by the US public school system, and 98,454 public schools, averaging 31 teachers per school.

The average teacher spends $500 yearly out of pocket on school supplies, amounting to an estimated $15,500 in EACH of our country's 98,454 schools.

Do you believe these figures should be apparent to the person leading our nation's public school system? Good. Your donation will go to the National Education Association, who opposed the nomination of DeVos and will advocate for the next appointee to have all the pencils they need.
