In Memory of Pickles The Corgi

Pickles is a six year old female Pembroke Welsh Corgi, whom we adopted from another family in July of 2013. She grew up in Long Island, and came to live her life with us in New York City. She is a truly unique pup who couldn't be happier to greet a new person, pup, or an old friend. She has the sassiest Corgi butt that just won't quit. She is sweet, protective, loyal, playful, and very smart. Her favorite tricks are whispering, rolling over, shaking, barking when the Rangers score, and going to one of her favorite places, her bed.



Even though we have only had her for a year and a half, she is our best friend, adventure pup, and more than just a dog. She is a true member of our family.





















On the night of Tuesday, February 3rd, our Corgi Pickles started urinating blood and became very lethargic. We took her to the vet the next afternoon and originally doctors thought she possibly had a UTI. The next day Pickles became increasingly lethargic and continued to refuse to eat and drink.





We took her back to the animal hospital where several tests were ran, x-rays were taken, and fluids were given. It was determined that Pickles has Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia with, so far, an unknown cause. Basically, her body is destroying her red blood cells and they are leaving her body in the form of stool and urine.





It was reccommended that she be admitted to Blue Pearl, a critical & emergency animal hospital. For the time being she is staying there over night receiving a blood transfusion, and possibly staying there for 2-3 more days. We really don't know at this point.



They haven't figured out why this is happening to her, and, if she lives, the cost of her care will be very expensive. She may need several blood transfusions, and months of medications and monitoring in order to force the disease into remission. There is no guarantee that she will make it.

At the moment we barely have enough to cover the cost of a single night's stay. So far with just the past two days the bill has reached almost $5,000. We will do anything to make sure Pickles receives the best care that she can and bounces back stronger than ever. But to do so, we need a lot of help. 

We are asking all you dog lovers, friends, and family to find it in your heart to help Pickles in her greatest time of need. 

We will post updates, photos, and videos as much as we can. We hope that she is better in time for the next NYC Corgi Meetup. This was going to be her first time attending. She loves to be around other dogs, especially Corgis, it is one of her favorite things.
