Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund

My name is Leah Merigian, I live in Chattanooga, TN. I am 24 years old and work at the Chattanooga Times Free Press. On October 1st, 2013 I was en route to one of the best travel experiences I have ever had. Kathmandu, Nepal welcomed me with open arms. More specifically the wonderful host family of Reena and Rishi Neupane who voluntarily let me stay with them and took care of me over a course of a month. I have never grown to love a culture more than I love the culture of the Nepali people.

On April 25th, 2015 a powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated the country of Nepal. It struck between the country’s two largest cities: Pokhara and Kathmandu. It’s the nation’s worst earthquake in 80 years and has claimed the lives of more than 8,000. Thousands more are injured and displaced.

My heart hurts for the people of Nepal. I get so frustrated because I want to help. I want to be there and physically help remove rubble. I want to be there and talk to the victims and try to comfort them as much as possible. But I know that right now, my world won’t allow that. I know that it is not time for me to go back.

I reached out to the organization that I trusted to send me over to Nepal by myself. It is called Cross Continental Solutions, an international volunteer organization, whose mission is to make extraordinary international volunteer and internship experiences universally accessible.

Jenn TL is the program coordinator, of Cross Continental Solutions. When I reached out to her about raising funds to the Nepali victims, she assured me that they will use the funds to provide water, food, shelter, sanitation, hygiene, and emergency care for the injured.

My friend that lives in Nepal, Sauravh, tells me specifically there is still a need for tents and clothing. He is currently helping the victims in his surrounding area. He and his friends can be there physically but cannot financially help with all of the supplies needed.

This is where I step in. This is where I feel I can help the most, for now.

Thank you for keeping Nepal in your prayers. This devastation is going to take time to heal and lots of time. But what is important to focus on now is --> donating towards aid for the victims. I am going to send every single fund that I raise to Cross Continental Solutions, because even from across the world I trusted Jenn TL with my life. She and her team in Nepal are going to use the funds for immediate relief prducts, such as tarps and tents as well as clothing, food, and water.

 Thank you for your support.
