THANK YOU. -- After 1 month of complete lockdown, the number of vulnerable families in the Kathmandu valley has grown significantly. The economic impacts of the COVID-19 shutdown have hit daily wage workers and their families the hardest, and food security is a growing threat. The Yellow House volunteer group quickly mobilized in the first days after the lockdown and started distributing healthy food packages to vulnerable families across the valley. We source our fresh produce from local farmers who have lost their markets, and dry goods come from local suppliers. Each package is designed to feed a family of 4 for one week and includes rice, daal, sugar, tea, soap, salt, and 10 kgs of fresh vegetables. Our initial goal was to feed 400 families. Thanks to overwhelming support from across the globe, we were successful in raising well over $10,000 and distributing <a href="https://bit.ly/HDRF_DistributionMap" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">over 2000 healthy food packages</a> to vulnerable families across the valley. As the number of COVID-19 cases in Nepal grows, so does the likelihood of the complete lockdown extending. With each passing week, more families are running out of options. We are currently unable to keep up with the rising demand for food packages, and are opening another appeal to provide a week's worth of food for another 1,000 families.  Each food package costs only $13 USD - for just under two dollars a day, your contribution will feed a family of four that have no other options, and will directly support struggling local farmers.
