"The McHenry Trial," Short Film

Donation protected
I am Ken Sagoes, a supporter of positive stories of the arts. I am asking for your support to help make a wonderful short-film called “The McHenry Trial.” It is the story about a 14-year-old inner-city prodigy who becomes a trial lawyer. He defends his homeless father who had been accused of murder. He also defends himself against an arrogant prosecutor and his rights to defend his father before a hard-nosed judge who is said to be the last of the old-school segregationist. Very rarely do we see our inner-city youth in such a powerful light on the screen.

Short Summary

A young and brilliant academic Phenom not only passes the Bar Exam at age 14 but finds himself defending his homeless father on a murder charge when few believe his father is innocent.

Why I Need your Help?

I have more than half of the budget that I need, but I need to raise at least $5,000 more to complete this project.

The funds will cover Equipment, crew, studio and other location rentals, food for actors, as well as editing, insurance, and music rights. Also, we need to raise money in order to pay for our actors and since we are filming a legal minor, we need to be able to pay for a studio teacher to be present while the minor is on set per California state law.

I have brought together a professional crew and cast. I have a studio location for two of the four days I will be filming. I would like to submit this project to film festivals around the country. Many festivals have stated they are interested in this film based on the synopsis and stated it’s the kind of story the fans would welcome.

The script received top honor from a top Hollywood coverage writer with a RECOMMEND as the final score, stating, “Your young hero is wonderfully likable and his relationship with his father is well told. I like your characters, especially DeShawn’s family – and I think the movie audience will, too. Looking ahead, you not only have a sellable feature story for a screenplay, but I can see this becoming a TV series as well.”
