Randi’s Journey with Ovarian Cancer and MDS
Donation protected
My name is Tessa and Randi is my aunt.
In October 2022, Randi was diagnosed with MDS, a rare type of bone marrow cancer resulting from prior cancer treatment. In Randi’s case, the chemotherapy given at different times throughout her 9 year battle with ovarian cancer resulted in the development of this bone marrow cancer. Her bone marrow is permanently damaged and is now unable to produce the necessary blood cells needed to survive. Randi is category 5, meaning very high risk and terminal.
Because her bone marrow is unable to produce enough white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets, Randi has increased risk for infections and severe bleeding. This has resulted in numerous blood transfusions, ER visits, and hospitalizations. At this time, December 1, 2022, Randi is hospitalized in Casper, WY fighting for her life against sepsis. The journey of cancer that Randi has been on for 9 years has now become day-to-day, sometimes hour-to-hour. Rick and Randi’s two adult children, Jesse and Jaime, have been with their mother as much as possible while trying to balance careers in their home states. Increasing medical expenses, emergency travel, and rearranged work schedules are part of the new normal to which this family is trying to adjust.
Rick and Randi Scherer are owners of Mountain View Ministry located in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming. The Scherer family along with dedicated and talented loved ones have built the cabins and surrounding roads and structures themselves literally from the ground up. The ministry was created for the purpose of offering a place of rest and rejuvenation for Christian pastors and servants who live their life in service to the Lord. Rick and Randi have welcomed many families to the Bighorn Mountains over the years, and selflessly opened the doors to their modern, well-stocked cabins and beautiful land. Never once have they charged a cent to a guest of Mountain View Ministry. Rick and Randi are truly the embodiment of generosity and grace.
If you feel called to give, 100% of the proceeds will go toward her continued life-saving care. In lieu of monetary support, sending love and prayers and any other acts of generosity are so greatly appreciated.
