HELP THE BUSINESSES ON COURT AVE!

Nearly 90% of the businesses in the Court Avenue District sustained damage as a result of the riots taking place here in Des Moines. Many assume insurance will cover the damages, however many of the owners have gotten claims denied based on the riots. This leaves the owners trying to rebuild on their own with no (or little) income coming in from the last two and a half months and no income coming in for the foreseeable future. Many of the businesses downtown have struggled with COVID-19 related issues and were having a hard time already. These businesses have been closed or operating take-out only for the last two and a half months and had just recently reopened for half-capacity dine in. In an article released May 30th on WHO 13 by Christina Salonikas, which can be found HERE , explains how the bars were excited to open for the public again. Bar owners planned to open for the first time since mid-March and had trained staff to cope with the changes of COVID-19. However, as a result of the damages and curfew, many restaurants and bars will be forced to stay closed for an indefinite time. Good things can come out of bad, and it's as a community that we need to support our local businesses now more than ever. 100% of the donations made to help rebuild the Court Avenue District will go to the Historic Court District Association and get divided up between the businesses effected including, but not limited to; Johnny's Hall of Fame, Spaghetti Works, Court Avenue Brewing Co., PIVOT, Beer Can Ally, and The Exchange. Donating to this fund will help immensely, but the more important thing is to go down and support these businesses once they reopen. Pride is the community coming together to show that love is real. They need us, and we need them.
