Recovery from a Bold Theft

Donation protected
Hello good neighbors and SDSU peers. My name is Ramona. I recently had my backpack stolen that had my 2022 MacBook Pro computer, wallet, 3 pairs of prescription glasses and other electronics inside it. This loss has another layer of hurt because I won that computer in a competitive President’s scholarship when I was at SD City college. I transferred to SDSU with an AS in Behavioral Science, Social work. I am currently a student at SDSU pursuing a BA in Sociology, Social Work minor.

I had an amazing anonymous donor help me replace my computer with a refurbished MacBook from Amazon. I literally cried. This person has encouraged me to start this gofund me effort in hopes of replacing the other items that were stolen.

I’ve lived in my spot for 14 years. I CLEARLY had a false sense of security. It seems the influx of all the social ills are impacting every neighborhood in the worst way. HOW bad is the theft in this area getting?? Bad. A hard lesson learned.

It was never this ruthless in my neighborhood. These criminals broke into my car (w/a slim gym) on a public street.  It was a couple that committed the break-in because the landlord was able to see the back side of them walking away on a surveillance video.
The boldness of their actions in the middle of the day, on a rather bustling street, utterly baffles me.

I did learn a valuable lesson that might help someone else to think in a different way. The one thing these criminals canNOT do is steal my peace. I own that. It’s a choice. I can stew on the violation-the loss- the whole grief cycle.. I could go there. Or, I can focus on the blessings that remain. I can and will recover.

I’m determined to finish these credentials and get back out in the world to have some positive impact most likely in the nonprofit wheelhouse. I live on scholarships/grants and SSI-a very, very tight budget. This is not an insurmountable event, but still a great hardship. I have two more semesters to go before I graduate and here I find myself with ‘my hat in my hand‘...

I am asking my community to collaborate with me. I need to finish this school process to take the next steps. Therefore, I am humbly asking if anyone could help me meet my goals to recover from this hit, I would greatly appreciate it. I can only give my word that your donation will be used to replace my learning tools.
For the Record: I have my eye on the foster care youth system. I can relate to not having family that can shelter and care for you. Perhaps I can put my experience to good use.

I will always appreciate as many good vibes, and prayers sent as well. That’s an intangible gift of love and energy that I truly value. Thank you to my community and those taking the time to read my appeal.

Respectfully,
Ramona S.
