Remembering John McNulty - "Do it for Johnny"
John McNulty was a highly intelligent, handsome young man. He could put complex puzzles together in an instant and loved building lego sets. He also enjoyed playing video games, playing baseball and basketball, rollerblading, skateboarding, hackey sack, playing saxophone and guitar, singing, and listening to music. He was a big Harry Potter, Star Wars and Power Rangers fan. He could randomly spout off random history facts and scientific knowledge. At any given time, he could down fifteen tacos in one sitting. He was witty and had a gorgeous, impish grin. We will never forget his laughter and all his friends that he brought back home to hang out with and join our family throughout the years. He leaves behind a sweet little step-daughter and beautiful baby boy that is the spitting image of him. He loved his children with all his heart and wanted the best for them.
Unfortunately, John had been battling demons for many years, including depression, anxiety, and for the past few years, drug addiction. He had been to rehab, gotten sober, relapsed, did rehab again. He was doing very well, and we thought this time he had beat it. But for reasons only he knows, he chose to use again. On March 26th, 2020, he overdosed and the person he was with administered narcan, but that did not work. It was much later that help was called. By then, he was in cardiac arrest. Although EMS resuscitated him, it was too late. He had been deprived of oxygen too long and was in a coma. There was nothing more that doctors could do, and he was pronounced brain dead.
He did not have any money to his name, nor any life insurance. My family and I are seeking help and the kindness of others to raise money for his cremation and a celebration of his life, which will take place once the covid-19 crisis is over. Any additional money will be used to set-up a savings account for his children, so that they may be taken care of when they become adults.
