Kathie’s Medical Bills

Donation protected
Reason:
The last 6 months our dad has incurred monumental medical bills that continue to increase. In addition to medical bills, he has also had expenditures incurred from traveling to and from Family Doctor’s visits, Rheumatologists, Hematologists, Neurologists, Cardiologist, ER visits and spending days and nights in Loveland, CO (3 hrs from home).  In the last days of Kathie’s life we are saddened by the outcome that no matter how much she fought for her life the diseases she faced were to much to overcome.  She passed away about 5am June 13, 2018.  While we, as both Kathie and Dave’s daughters, continue to give emotional support to our only living parent now, we welcome any support you can give and thank you in advance.

Kathie’s Story

Kathie has been in and out of hospitals & specialists for over 15 times since February this year.  She lost mobility on her left side in February due to a stroke.  She was not able to care for herself any longer.  Just as her physical therapy efforts were showing progress she suffered a 2nd stroke on April 30th.  At this point, not only, was she somewhat paralyzed again, her emotional state was crushed.  However, She picked herself back up, as always, and tried to carry on, knowing the long road ahead of her would be difficult.  She kept her head up determined to keep fighting.

June 1st, mom took a turn for the worst with her diseases. Dad found her in the middle of the night in a state of confusion and disorientation.  Upon taking her into the emergency room, with in hours dad found out devastating news, she was bleeding on both sides of her brain.  At this point mom was flown by helicopter from Rawlins, WY to Loveland, CO (180 miles).  Mom was in ICU for 10 days.  She went from not being able to speak or recognize family one day to being able to speak few words and recognizing family another day.  All along experiencing intense pain throughout her body.  We learned from the 10 Specialists working on mom that the symptoms she was having were not due to the blood in her brain but rather a result of her Lupus and Anti-Cardiolipin diseases.  She was walking a fine line, one that even the doctors were nervous about.  The  double edge sword we were faced with was, they take her off her blood thinner to stop the bleeding and she suffer a MASSIVE stroke that would probably take her life or they keep her on blood thinner but she could start a bleed that would be unstoppable.  It was decided to take her off the blood thinner and hope that her body would adjust correctly.  We all were trying to stay positive remembering “Love Hopes All Things”.

On day 10 we learned that mom’s platelets and hemoglobin were so low that her all her organs were irreversibly shutting down and the Anti-cardiolipin was continuing to attack her body.  Doctors said that they had done everything they could and all we could do now was keep her comfortable.  She had only hours to days left before death.  Our hearts sank with deep pain. We sat with mom in the hospital, while nurses made sure she was comfortable, until June 13th when her body completely let go.  At 5am a nurse woke Jess, who was sleeping by her side, to let her know that mom had passed.

We thank you for ANY donations big or small. Even though this is devastatingly life changing for us we thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts for any help you, your friends or family are able to give.

Love,

Jessie & Lea
