Samuel's 2017 Karting Campaign
Hello my name is Samuel Cornwell. I am 16 years of age and I have been karting since the age of 8. I started out with indoor karting, when I was nine I obtained my MSA license and was lucky enough to get a kart of my own which enabled me to start racing at the larger outdoor circuits.
I have been very successful during my karting career with many podiums, race wins and club championships under my belt, including some 48 trophies, the Kent Junior Championship and the South East Junior Champion.
The 2015 season was my best year yet, I competed in the LGM Championship, racing at circuits all over the UK. To finish up what was already an amazing season I found myself competing in the X30 World Finals at the Leman Karting Circuit in France, against 110 top drivers from all over the world.

In 2016, I moved from the Junior Class to the Senior Class, it was a good year to get used to racing faster karts and competing against older more experienced drivers whilst concentrating on my GCSE’s. Although, I didn’t compete as much, I ended the year coming 4th in the HKRC championship while also gaining 11 GCSE’s including one A* and five grade A’s, so overall I was very pleased with this year’s accomplishments.
My goal for 2017, is to compete in the British Karting Championship “Super One” it is the ultimate stage where the best drivers compete in six three day rounds at different circuits up and down the country. I have raced at some of the circuits before with podiums at both Wilton Mill and Buckmore Park. It will be a fantastic challenge and one that I doing everything possible to make it a successful one.
Super One has been going for over 35 years and has been the springboard for so many top professional motor racing drivers, too many to mention them all but the list includes David Coulthard, Jason Plato, Dan Wheldon, Anthony Davidson, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. As the official British National Championship every round is televised and shown on dedicated programme on Motors TV. This coverage plays a big part in raising the profile of a young driver.
As with all forms of motorsport, karting is expensive and to compete at the top levels requires a lot of investment. My parents have funded my karting to date and I know how fortunate I am that they have been able to support me. However, to compete in “Super One” it will require a greater investment. I have therefore recently started to mechanic for other drivers when I am not karting myself to help pay towards my racing.
To help me achieve my 2017 goal I am seeking additional funding and sponsorship to make my dream become a reality. Whether, you can give £5, £25 or an even greater amount, your contribution will make a big difference. Every penny raised will be invested wisely in making me go faster and ultimately more competitive. In return, I am going to keep everyone updated with my progress through regular social media updates. The six race meetings will be shown on TV and I will keep you posted on the dates.
