Save Le Cagibi / Quarantine Relief Fund
If the person reading this is a regular: we miss you
If you are a newcomer: hi!! We wish we could meet you in different circumstances </3
In these times of crisis and adaptation, many people are presently losing their source of income and many businesses are struggling to make ends meet. Le Cagibi is no exception. As you may know, we were already on thin ice financially, and the self-isolation required from all citizens for our collective well-being unfortunately brings even more precarity.
In the next few days, we will transition to a delivery system, keeping only one worker and doubling down on cleaning measures. Even if this transition proves successful, we will need community support to get through the other side, keep up with the rent and, hopefully, pay the workers.
We are humbly asking for your help today because we believe in this space and its relevance, both in terms of community building and culture. We can't wait to gather once again with you to share food, music and conversation. If you love Cagibi, care for its workers and wish to spend more times there in the future, now is the time to donate.
Our goal may seem high, but it roughly covers our most urgent expenses. Here is a breakdown of what will be due by April:
Rent = 3500$
Fine (delivered by an undercover cop last summer when we didn't have AC and the café was so hot that the cash register stopped working and we couldn't hand in receipts - which is illegal) = 2500$
Restaurant permit = 350$
Alcohol permit = 350$
Total = 6700$
Here is a breakdown of the less urgent expenses:
Hydro = 1000$
Suppliers = 250$
Insurance = 200$
Paying workers = 1000$
Total = 2450
So in an ideal world, we would need 9150$ to stay afloat through the crisis, but we know this is a big number! We understand that there is a high demand for funds, especially for community organizations and frontline workers, and we commit to sharing as many fundraisers as we can. We may not reach our goal in these times of need, but we are infinitely thankful for any and all donations. If you have the means necessary, consider donating to Cagibi but also to Indigenous land protectors, sex workers, homeless shelters, food banks, freelancers and artists.
With love, gratitude and solidarity,
The workers of Coop Le Cagibi
