Save Our Summer Camp
Donation protected
After 40 plus years of hosting the best week of the year for kids with neuromuscular diseases in the Kansas City area, our beloved summer camp is no longer being financially funded. The out pouring of support from past and current campers, parents and volunteer counselors is undeniable proof that camp is not a place but truly a community of interconnected families who will do anything possible for these kids. This one week every summer has been the foundation of campers’ cultivation of independence and confidence. Summer camp has been the one place they are “normal”; the one place they get to truly be a kid and experience life in the fullest way they deserve. Campers will tell anyone that camp is better than Christmas, that camp is their favorite place on earth, and that every other week of the year they are looking forward for the one at camp.
In response to the loss of our camp we have banded together with the goal to create our own summer camp. We are asking for donations to fund the inevitable high cost of liability insurance, camp ground fees, activities, meals and lodging. As support grows for our cause we hope to take action in forming a non-profit specifically tailored to keeping our camp magic alive. We have a problem, but we know solutions—we just need your help with the money necessary to start up our 501c3 with the goal of returning this camp to our Kansas City Metro.
Our goal is to raise $75,000 to aid in returning the camp to Tall Oaks next summer to serve 90-100 campers, counselors, and support personnel. We have the volunteers, and structure in place—we just need the hearts of people who see the value in camp like we do to partner with us to return our camp to our kids.
Every dollar raised will be utilized for a gathering of all the campers in the Kansas City metro area.
