Debra passed away on July 10th, 2020 from complications stemming from a back surgery just 10 days prior.
Debra was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, and a friend to so many. She found joy in doing nice things for other people. Not only other people she knew, but random strangers as well. One time she was shopping at Michael's Craft Store just before Christmas. She was putting ribbon and Christmas picks together in her hands trying to determine exactly where she would place them once she got home. An older lady came up to Debra, taking notice of the items she had put together, and asked her for help finding similar things that she could buy on a budget to decorate a Christmas Tree in her home. Debra spent the next 2 hours walking around the store with the lady carefully selecting Christmas ornaments, ribbon, picks, bows all while staying within a budget. Most of us, myself included, would have been quick to say, "Oh I don't work here, sorry." Not Debra, she took it upon herself to stop what she was doing, and help someone else who was obviously a bit overwhelmed and looking for some guidance, care, concern and empathy.
Debra's goal with her husband Mitch, was to make someone smile EVERY SINGLE DAY. Whether that be a cashier at the grocery store, a waiter/waitress at a restaurant, or a random stranger in line at the gas station.
Debra made the lives of all who came in contact with her better.
The purpose of this Go Fund Me is to help cover the costs associated with bringing Debra from San Francisco, home to Reno, where she can be laid to rest surrounded by her family, friends and loved ones. The transport cost alone is a big one, combined with putting together a viewing, celebration of life, cremation etc. There will undoubtedly be medical bills piling up in the months ahead as well.
