Short Film information:

Log Line: A beauty store employee grapples with her obsession of maintaining a youthful appearance and is forced to reflect on her beliefs after an interaction from an elderly lady.

Synopsis: “Skin Deep” follows a female (Britney) in her late 20s who is subservient to society’s expectations and pressures to look a certain way as instigated by the beauty industry. Ageism is called upon when her retail boss (Linda) asks her to help elderly-people with skincare. She is confronted with her worst fear, and this drives her to the point of a nervous breakdown and recognition of the inevitability of ageing. Being appearance-obsessed, she struggles to detach from her internal voice which tells her that she isn’t beautiful enough, hence the extent she goes in order to keep her skin in pristine condition. The film juggles with the oxymoronic idea of above level and below level issues (skin/deep), representing the beauty industry as a whole, and Britney’s internal voice, respectively.
