Fertile Foods for Families

Donation protected

Hi, I want to thank you all for taking the time to read this and hear about my story.

My name's Desmond and I've been gardening since I was ten. I'm currently starting my farm “Fertile Foods” in Dripping Springs. My Mom and Dad purchased the property at the ripe ages of 28 & 24 in 1981. Throughout the years our family has had many cherished memories on the property in Dripping Springs. Now at 28, I'm starting with a 6000 square foot area and intend to expand with a fruit orchard, flower garden, and more garden plots.

When I was in high school I had a major knee injury playing soccer. After visiting over half a dozen doctors there was no hope for my ligament to reattach to the bone. Even when I persisted to Google it, everyone said it was impossible. It was rough believing and being told there was no solution for me. Not being able to walk and do basic day-to-day things while battling months of depression, I had no other choice but to take health into my own hands and started to eat plant-based. Eating from the local farmers market produce has nourished my body in a way that has allowed me to overcome the "impossible".

I want to start this business to engage and share these foods with our community so they can experience natural nourishment. When people think of a farmers market, they envision vibrant produce!! When I go to the market I see mostly craft goods and baked goods. Fertile Foods intends on bringing nutrient-dense food to the community. I'm currently in the process of building my dream I call the Soil Sanctuary, feels so much better than calling it a farm :). I plan on expanding in the future and I'm not going anywhere. I will be growing/providing some of the best produce in the area for years.

The goal of Fertile Foods is to give back as much as we can to the community and ecosystem. A lot of people say generic greenwashing comments like this but we're serious about the biology in the soils and balancing the microbiome using native plants/microbes. Restoring the land while helping families with their food sovereignty.

Many farmers have an extraction reduction method and they call it economics/profits.

“How much weight/volume can I take out of the dirt?
How many dollar bills can I acquire?”

They do not think of true ECO-nomics. Through their methods, the quality of the soil degrades; drying and collapsing its ecology. Resulting in polluted streams, decreased overall animal well-being, as well as fewer nutrients available for the consumer causing a net loss to our environment. Our soils would become healthier each year building more fertility, more biodiversity, and providing stability for the future generation of living soils. This results in cleaner water filtering and cleaner air due to the sponge-like nature of the soil. The diversity of life makes our soil sanctuary naturally disease resistant. This is true ECO-nomics, with a STRICT no-spray policy.

Planting a diversity of crops is bountiful in its harvest and can net more profits/acre than planting mono-cropped style gardens. I would love your support to help me get directly involved in impacting community health with vibrant diversity & flavors.

The funds would go towards delicious food, medicinal herbs, native pollinator gardens, fencing, mulching, seeds, trees, gas, transportation & materials. The biggest costs are the fence materials and the golden mixture of local mulch.

Don't think any amount of donation is too small, even 5$ helps out a whole lot!! that's a lot of seeds! If you're not able to financially help out, don't worry! You can contribute an incredible amount just by sharing this with people, for real!

Thank you all for the support, I can't wait to grow together and see the community thrive!
I'll be updating here to check in with y'all and I'll show the progress with all the gardens via Instagram and soon Facebook. Make sure to check in and see!

Loyal to our soil, Desmond.
