Steph's wheelchair van cruiser
Donation protected
Stephanie is in desperate need of a wheelchair accessible van for transportation . She is now 22 years old and we as her parents are getting older. We can no longer carry her into the car to take her to all her doctors appointments or anywhere we need to take her.
Stephanie was born full term with no health issues. When she turned 8 months old we noticed she wouldn't answer to her name, look at us, and just stared into space. Her pediatrian kept telling us to stop comparing her milestones to her older brother's. As a mother of two older boys deep in my heart, I knew something was wrong .
We changed her pediatrician( best move) to a doctor who treated children with special needs. He got the ball rolling. Tests after tests to rule out other disorders were done. We traveled almost all over Connecticut . She was diagnosed with RETT syndrome around 6 years old. She started having seizures at the age of 6 and was also diagnosed with Segmental Nourofibromatosis and scoliosis .
What do all these medical terms mean?
Stephanie can't speak, walk, go to the bathroom, hand wrings constantly, drools constantly, or use her hands purposefully. She is total care and completely dependent. She had full spinal fusion surgery in 2011. Her seizures are under control with medication. She has to take about 26 crushed pills a day and her food has to be puréed in a blender.
This money will be used to purchase a wheelchair accessible van so I could not only take her to all her appointments, but also take her to the beach, movies, mall, parks, and library.
Raising this money would mean so much to my husband and I because we could put her in her wheelchair, take her to the car and roll her in. We now have to take a smaller foldable wheelchair and carry Stephanie into the car. We are getting much older and she is much heavier. Raising the money to purchase the wheelchair accessible van would also mean so much for Stephanie because she loves to go out. She has a huge smile on her face when she is in the car. She looks at everything and is just so happy.
Stephanie and her family would be so thankful for the extremely generous funds. This would help make her life more comfortable and more joyful.
Stephanie communicates with her eyes and her smile. She loves music ( not sad music, it makes her cry). She loves to be read to and talked to. She is an amazing, beautiful, and happy young lady. She is our life.
We could never thank everyone enough. The van would be life changing for the whole family. We would be able Take her everywhere with us. We would all be so grateful to everyone who contributes to make this dream a reality.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone with all our hearts.
