Support Belinda's Memorial Bench

Belinda “Lindy” Ann Martis, 64, of Pekin, passed away, 4:21 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2024 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Born April 10, 1960 in Pekin, she was the daughter of James E. and Julia Ann (Thomas) Murphy, Sr., she married Shawn Patrick Martis on March 27, 2000. He died August 17, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Walter L. Waremburg; one son, Ryan Martis and one sister, Christine Murphy.

Surviving are three children, Steven (Sarah) Kennedy and Rachel (Josh) Cluck, both of Pekin and Wesley Brown of Washington; two grandchildren, Julia Kennedy and Piper Rosenberg; three siblings, James E. (Sandra) Murphy Jr. of Green Valley, Kathy (Dan) Reatherford and Marcella Bougher, both of Pekin; several nieces and nephews and her friend, Brenda “Lovey” Hilst of Pekin.

An excellent homemaker and mother, Lindy worked for many years as a tax assessor for Pekin Township, she later worked as a professional cleaner.

She enjoyed gardening and caring for her house plants. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, especially cakes for all occasions. Her children and family meant the world to her.

Lindy was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. Pastor Eric Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorials may be given to the family to offset costs of a memorial bench in her honor in the Pekin park district. She loved this park and has given her children many happy memories here.
